How to teach the trick?
  • Begin the training session by asking your dog to lie down on its belly with its head held up
  • Show your dog the treat and let him sniff it but make sure it’s clear that it cannot have the treat yet
  • Bend down to your dog’s level and slowly move the treat in an arc above its head in the direction you wish for it to roll
  • Your dog’s head should tilt with the motion along with its body. If not encourage it to do so by gently using one hand to move it to the desired position
  • Reward your dog with the treat, hugs, kisses and cheer it on during the next attempts
  • Repeat the training exercise until your dog can perform it easily anywhere

Tips for teaching your dog to roll over
  • Positive reinforcement and patience is the key to learning any trick so keep plenty of that aside for your beloved pooch
  • You may use a clicker or a ball point pen instead of treats
  • Gradually increase the level of distraction in the surroundings so that your dog may easily adjust to the advanced level of concentration required of it
  • Remember, practice makes a dog perfect!
